DIFFERENT TYPES OF ACNE AND HOW TO TREAT THEM?

August 22, 2021

You may have used acne or breakouts interchangeably, but what do they really mean? Not all types of acne spread across the skin. Get an oxygen facial to help clear your acne!

The primary cause of clogged pores cause acne. Clogged pores may be due to:

  • Excess production of oil
  • Hormones
  • Dead skin cells
  • Ingrown hairs
  • Bacteria

Acne is typically associated with hormonal fluctuations experience during teenage years. Unfortunately, acne does not disappear for all adults. Many adults still experience acne, making it one of the most common skin conditions for all humans.

There are different stage/types of acne including:

  • Black heads
  • White heads
  • Papules
  • Pustules
  • Nodules
  • Cysts

Different stage of acne

It is possible to have multiple types of acne at once, while some people experience severe enough acne that they require visits to the dermatologist.

For the best way to keep your skin clear, is to follow the tips on a daily skincare routine and invest in good quality products. You should also consider getting yourself an oxygen facial.

Noninflammatory acne
Noninflammatory acne includes blackheads and whiteheads. This type of acne does not typically cause swelling and can respond well to over the counter treatments. Products featuring salicylic acid can also be beneficial to decrease whiteheads and black heads. Salicylic acid helps exfoliates the skin by removing dead skin cells. Check these products out.

Blackheads
Blackheads are open comedones clogged by a combination of sebum and dead skin cells. The top of the pore stays open while the rest is clogged. This gives it a characteristic black colour on the surface.

White Heads
Whiteheads are close comedones that are clogged by sebum and dead skin cells. The top of the pore closes up creating a small bump protruding from the skin.

Inflammatory Acne
Pimples that are red and swollen are considered as inflammatory acne. Sebum, bacteria, and dead skin cells contribute to inflammatory acne. Bacteria causes infection beneath the skin’s surface that accumulates to cause painful acne spots that are hard to get rid of. Products including those featuring benzoyl-peroxide may help reduce swelling and eliminate bacteria. It can remove excess sebum and combat inflammatory papules and pustules. Check out some acne targeted products here.

  • Papules occur when walls surround your pores break down from severe inflammation. This creates hard and clogged pores.
  • Pustules form when walls around your pores break down and fill with pus.
  • Nodules happen when clogged, swollen pores endure further irritation that grow larger. Nodules are deeper underneath the skin than other inflammatory acne.

Cysts
Cysts may develop when pores are clogged with a combination of bacteria, sebum, and dead skin cells. Cysts develop even further down in the skin and cause large red or white bumps. They are the largest form of acne that results from a severe infection.
